CHARACTER INFO

Character: Lynette Snezhevna
Canon: Genshin Impact, patch 5.6
Age: The same age as Lyney (~20)

Background Information: Just catgirl things.
content warning: Lynette's history includes kidnapping and the threat of sexual abuse. She was rescued before anything happened, but it's still worth noting as a sensitive topic.

Personality:
1) Tell us about who your character is and what someone’s first impression would be upon meeting them.

As far as first impressions go, Lynette can be off-putting. She comes off as aloof, disinterested, robotic, and downright weird. That is entirely by design. Saying things like "engaging standby mode" and staring into space gets people to leave her alone, exactly how she prefers it.

The reason why Lynette wants to be left alone is layered and complex. Part of it has to due with the fact that she doesn't trust easily, so she finds it most convenient to remain at arm's length from people by not engaging in the first place. The bigger reason, however, is that Lynette is a consummate introvert with very little tolerance for socialization. Speaking with people drains her, and given her tendency to hide behind Lyney when it comes to other people (first out of fear and now out of preference) she has not had a chance to build up any kind of stamina for it. She freely admits to coasting her way through small talk using empty platitudes without paying that much attention, and at one point during her hangout event having to be the center of attention for too long at a banquet has her so overwhelmed that she's in tears once it's over. Her empty battery sticker in Genshin's chat function isn't just a silly picture - it's emblematic of her actual social battery.

If someone is able to get past her guarded exterior, Lynette can be quite personable. She softens considerably with her family, the Traveler, and her costars in The Lost Puppet - one of whom comments at how surprised she is that Lynette can be so down to earth given her celebrity status and reputation. Those she holds dear can expect to be invited to quiet activities like tea or to hanging out with cats. They can also expect Lynette to quietly learn their routines and preferences so that she can anticipate their needs and provide it. Per her character stories, that's the social niche that she falls into within her family: the quiet, mindful support behind Lyney's protector. While she certainly won't be shy about her opinion if she disagrees, she is ride-or-die for those she cares about. In Arlecchino's story quest, the first thing she does when she arrives is call Lyney, Freminet, the Traveler, and Paimon idiots. Immediately after that, she declares that she's going along with their plan whether they like it or not.

2) What is a driving force your character has? What goals do they have, what motivates them, etc?

Like so many other children of the House of the Hearth, family is the driving force in Lynette's life. It's a difficult and dangerous family to be a part of, and Lynette is not blind to that fact - she freely admits that not everyone can accept how "Father" expresses love and runs the House. But it is the first place she's ever truly belonged, and she refuses to let that go. Even after facing down Arlecchino and being presented presented with the opportunity to leave and live a "normal" life, Lynette declines to leave. The House of the Hearth is her home, and the people within it are her family. It's as simple as that. And because they are a family, Lynette will do whatever it takes to support them - everything from small gestures to help her siblings' morale to dangerous missions at the behest of "Father." While she is closest to Lyney, she would move heaven and earth for any member of the House if necessary.

As far as motivators that are far less tied to the core of her sense of self-worth, Lynette greatly prioritizes rest. Genshin Impact includes many references to her tendency to nap and/or space out in character stories, voicelines, and other lore text. By her own estimation, if she rests often and avoids unnecessary stress in her day-to-day life she will be better equipped to handle crises when the occur. Whether this attitude is an effect of her feline atavism, a conscious choice to counterbalance her brother's constant underlying anxiety, or some combination of the two is up for debate.

Lynette also has a soft spot for downtrodden cats and will go out of her way to help them out if she can. Her finding and wanting to help a stray cat is the inciting incident for her hangout quests, and her character story "Non-Automated Feeding Machine" describes her finding, bringing home, and (with "Father"'s permission) caring for a box of abandoned kittens. She feels a kinship with these poor creatures, since it wasn't that long ago that she was also a stray cat in need of help.

3) What are their flaws as a character? What is something they've messed up, or have done that they regret?

One definitely could argue that Lynette's distrust of others and antisocial behavior are flaws. She doesn't seem as bothered by her inability to trust others as Lyney is, likely due to their different personalities and experiences. While Lyney had trust that could be broken by the foster father that ultimately sold Lynette to a "novelty-seeking degenerate," Lynette didn't have the full capability of such trust even back then. Her feline features made her different and the focus of unwanted attention. No one but Lyney and the stray cats that she turned to in his absence was ever truly safe.

Instead, what bothers Lynette is her previous passivity and inability to act against her circumstances. As a child, her reaction to threats was to hide behind Lyney. Failing that, she would freeze or flee. At the time, she lacked the ability to do otherwise. Lyney was the outgoing protector, and she was the weird introvert with cat features who needed protecting. It wasn't until she was saved by "Father" that she was inspired to become something more than a poor, unfortunate stray. She's worked hard and has come a long way since then, but her past self serves as regret and motivator both. The story of how she received her Vision touches on those feelings specifically. When Lyney is knocked unconscious during a mission, Lynette has to fight through her bitterly familiar feelings of hopelessness ("Why, then, were things just like before? Could she do nothing but wait for someone to defend her? As she trembled in the darkness?") before deciding that she is going to step up and face the challenge ("She had wished to stand behind [Lyney], supporting him, back to back, shoulder to shoulder.").

These feelings are touched on again in Lynette's hangout quest. One of the story paths includes a police case that implicates a relative of the man who kidnapped her. When Lynette realizes this (and that Lyney and Freminet conspired to keep her out of it), she doubles down on her intention to get involved and insists that Lyney's attempts to sideline her for her own emotional protection wasn't necessary. The Traveler presses her and asks if she's trying to prove something to herself. Lynette doesn't deny that she is, at least in part.

On a less serious note: there is a a pile of battered and broken machinery left in Lynette's wake. With the notable exception of the equipment used in magic shows with Lyney, Lynette absolutely cannot be trusted with mechanical devices. She will find a way to break them, and she will abandon the wreckage for someone else to repair.

4) Optional: What is something unique and interesting about them, or what is a fun little tidbit that sets them apart from the crowd?

Just look at her! She's perfect.

Abilities:
Magician's Assistant: While Lyney is a showman who knows how to draw attention to himself, Lynette works to make sure she remains unnoticed while committing sleight of hand and assisting with the performance - or to pull the audience's eyes away from her brother so he can commit a bit of sleight of hand himself. She's talented and trained enough to perform magic on her own if she wanted to. However, she has no interest in being the star of the show.
Anemo: Enigmatic Feint and Magic Trick: Astonishing Shift
Swordsmanship: Rapid Ritesword
Espionage: Lynette's specialty is gathering intelligence. She's quiet and keenly observant, always watching and taking note of details great and small. Sometimes she does this in plain sight (one of the few benefits of celebrity), while other times she has to sneak into a target location and observe from the shadows.
Catlike Traits: Thanks to a quirk of genetics, Lynette has feline physical and behavioral traits. She has cat ears, a tail, keen eyesight and hearing, a sensitive tongue, and a strong preference toward taking naps and eating seafood.

ARMADA SELECTION

Paladin. Given her ability to adapt and blend into the background, Lynette would do just fine in either faction. That said, the Paladins would be more her speed - they're less prone to chaos and more structured in their organization. That kind of predictability makes it much, much easier for her to plan her activities and relaxation around. Of course, her loyalty to the Paladins would be tenuous at best. Given that "Father" and two of her siblings are here, her fealty goes to the House of the Hearth first and foremost.

Also, this way Freminet won't be alone in the Paladins anymore.
